Oh gosh this is going to be the biggest TV news yet!
As broadcast networks are ramping up their efforts at cracking the multi-camera comedy format this season, the efforts may include trips to the format’s golden years. CBS and CBS TV Studios are doing it with a reboot of The Odd Couple, now Warner Bros. TV is exploring a new take on the 1980s ABC family sitcom “Full House”, produced by the studio’s predecessor, Lorimar TV.
Yes, it’s true. Sort of!
See, the thing is, the cast has remained tight-knit since Full House was canceled in 1995, and some of the actors have let it slip in the past that they’d like to see Full House return. Furthermore, The family sitcom, which aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995, is still a ratings juggernaut via repeats on Nick at Nite.
John Stamos (Joey) addressed the possibility for a Full House redo on Andy Cohen’s Bravo talk show, “Watch What Happens Live”, saying, “We’re sort of working on a twist on a sequel, but we don’t know if it’s going to happen yet or not.”
As reported by TV Guide, Full House creator Jeff Franklin is writing the followup, which is in early stages of development and not set up at a network. The original series star John Stamos is getting a producer credit because of his producing role on the ABC sitcom, but his involvement beyond that is unclear, with him starring again as Uncle Jess seeming unlikely.
Rumour has it that former cast members Candace Cameron Bure (D.J.), Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) and Andrea Barber (Kimmy) are on board, while Bob Saget (Danny) and Dave Coulier (Joey) are also involved in some way. Nothing has been said about Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen as of yet. And as for Lori Loughin, who played Rebecca aka Aunt Becky aka Joey’s wife, she told Perez Hilton exclusively that she hasn’t been contacted for the remake:
We really hope it’s true, that there’ll be a Full House remake! Let’s wait and see if there will be future announcements regarding this.
