Few Malaysian actors go to the same lengths as Shaheizy Sam when it comes to embodying a role. Known for his dedication and willingness to transform for the sake of authenticity, Sam once again proves his devotion through his latest film “Badak”, directed by M. Raihan Halim.
Previously admired for his toned physique in “Polis Evo”, Sam took a completely different turn this time by swapping his six-pack for a belly and gaining 30 kilograms to reach 90kg. The transformation was his own decision to create a unique identity for each character.

“After 30 years in this industry, the image of ‘Shaheizy Sam’ is very strong, so I always try to find something new, something that makes people remember the character instead of me. That’s why I agreed to change my physical appearance, even though I only had seven months to gain 30kg,” said the actor.
According to Sam, his physical transformation was part of his continuous effort to ensure that every character he portrays has its own distinct identity. “My approach to acting is about creating belief and lasting memories for the audience, whether I’m playing a street racer or a police inspector,” he told HibGlam.

Beyond the physical change, the actor also learned sign language for his role as a deaf and mute man, a challenge he only had three months to prepare for. “It wasn’t easy, deaf people don’t just look at your hands, they read your eyes and facial expressions. That’s where true emotion lies,” he admitted.
Now more selective with his work, the “Indera” star chooses to act in only one or two films a year, allowing him to fully commit to each project. “Alhamdulillah, I’ve been blessed enough to focus on fewer roles and give them my best,” he said.

Alongside acting, Sam also runs his own business to ensure financial stability and creative freedom. “I don’t want to rely solely on acting. Since 2016, I’ve only taken roles that show a different side of me as an actor,” he added.
“Badak”, released nationwide on 2nd October, also stars Aida Amron, Wan Hanafi Su and Kahoe Hon. The heartwarming film explores the bond between a father and child, with music serving as the bridge between two generations. Check out the official trailer below:
