Scammers exist everywhere, and they tend to use certain tactics to manipulate people. Among the many tactics include overcharging tourists. Previously, a tourist couple suspected that they were scammed by a foreign hairdresser who charged them RM120 for a haircut.
Recently, a local woman named Nurfairuz Anne shared how she was scammed during her visit at Cahaya Negeri beach in PD late last month. She took to the Facebook page “Port Dickson Group” to detail her negative experience.
“I want to share my experience during my holiday in Port Dickson. I feel like I was tricked by this uncle who’s in charge of the boat ride on the beach. At first, he promised to charge only RM70 per boat ride. But after we were done with the cruise, he asked us to pay him RM350. He claimed that the price is actually RM70 per head. I think the price is not reasonable,” Nurfairuz wrote. Her husband ended up paying for the ride, and she decided to lodge a police report on the matter.
The woman’s post also caught the attention of the Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Negeri Sembilan, Muhammad Zahir Mazlan. In his statement, he urged the individual to make a complaint to the KPDN through their official website or hotline.
He added that the ministry will conduct an investigation on the complaint once it is fully received, and the results of the investigation will be informed to the complainant. The investigation will be conducted in accordance with Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act 1999, as well as Section 14 of the Trade Description Act 2011.
We certainly hope that the authorities will take stern action against the culprit.
