It’s finally here! After teasing her first-ever collaboration with another artist, Jisoo (김지수) has officially released her duet single “Eyes Closed” with former One Direction member Zayn Malik, along with its accompanying music video.
The music video’s story is set on a spaceship in the distant future, where the two singers awaken from their cryosleep chambers and begin exploring their surroundings. Since its release, fans have spotted possible Easter eggs and clues that may be linked to either artist’s future projects. Here’s what we’ve discovered so far:
1. The identification tags; possible future collabs?
In one scene, four identification tags are shown stacked on a table, with Jisoo’s and Zayn’s tags placed on top. This has led fans to speculate that the BLACKPINK member might be collaborating with three other artists in the future for a full album release. Fans also noticed that Jisoo was wearing one of her outfits from the “Earthquake” music video in her identification tag photo. With this in mind, many believe that the videos could be connected as part of a larger storyline.
2. Album release date teased?
Since Jisoo cleverly teased the release date for “Eyes Closed” in her “Earthquake” music video, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume she’s done it again with this latest release. Towards the end of the duo’s music video, the date 9th February appears on the screen as the K-pop idol and the UK star gaze out of the spaceship window.
This could be a possible hint at the release date for Jisoo’s full-length album or, at the very least, her next single. The actress did mention that her AMORTAGE mini-album is only a tease for what’s to come, as she is working on more material.
3. Sponsored by Google?
It’s not unusual for a music video to feature product placements, especially when a brand is one of the main sponsors. It appears that the “Eyes Closed” music video was sponsored by Google, as Jisoo is seen using the latest Google Pixel 10 smartphone’s AI function, one of the device’s key features, to identify the planet shown in front of her.
4. Music video inspired by the “Passengers” film?
Music videos often take inspiration from or reference popular films and TV shows. Fans have speculated that the “Eyes Closed” music video was inspired by the sci-fi film “Passengers”, starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, as there are noticeable similarities between the visuals and props.
