Before they became famous, most celebrities worked various jobs to stay afloat or had careers in fields completely unrelated to what they are doing now. Take, for instance, Ziana Zain, who recently shared her experience working as a flight attendant for Malaysia Airlines (MAS). Apparently, she was not the only Malaysian celeb who used to work in this business.
From actors and singers to entrepreneurs, many familiar faces worked for specific airlines before pursuing careers in the spotlight. However, for this article, we will only list 10 local celebrities and the airlines they represented.
1. Ziana Zain (MAS)
Before becoming an icon, Ziana Zain landed a job as a stewardess for Malaysia Airlines. She served as a cabin crew for 3 years before pursuing a career in music and the rest is history.
2. Anuar Zain (MAS)
Anuar Zain became a flight attendant for Malaysia Airlines before his older sister, making him her senior. Ziana revealed in an interview that he gave her tips while she was still undergoing training.
3. Amy Mastura (MAS)
Singer-actress Amy Mastura first began her career as a stewardess for MAS from 1989 to 1994. She then entered and won a singing contest in Japan and signed with Pony Canyon, where she launched her career as a recording artist.
4. Scha Al-Yahya (AirAsia)
Before Scha Al-Yahya won the Dewi Remaja in 2006, she once served as a stewardess for AirAsia. She quit flying to pursue a career in modelling and acting after winning the beauty pageant.
5. Intan Sarafina (AirAsia)

6. Zarul Umbrella (MAS)
Umbrella vocalist Zarul Husin served as a flight attendant for MAS for 17 years after the band disbanded in 1996. He resigned in 2016 to make a return with his band to the music scene.
7. Nazim Othman (MAS)
Nazim Othman was a flight attendant for MAS for four years before pursuing a career in acting. He made his onscreen debut in a supporting role in the 2008 series “Frontpage”, starring Tony Eusoff and Bernie Chan.
8. Fouziah Gous (MAS)
In 2021, Fouziah Gous shared a little about her experience working as a flight attendant for MAS. Some of you might remember her as the face of the local airline, as she was featured on an official poster for five years.
9. Rozita Che Wan
Not only was she a former beauty queen, but Rozita Che Wan was also a Malaysia Airlines stewardess for three years, from 1992 to 1995. While pursuing a career in modelling, she met her then-husband, Azuar Effendy Zulkaply, who was a pilot for the airline she had worked for.
10. Ellie Suriaty Omar
From 1991 to 1997, Ellie Suriaty Omar served as a cabin crew for MAS. During her time there, she was known only as Suri by her colleagues. After resigning from the airline, she made a name for herself as an actress, director, and writer, with her latest project being “Nafsu”, a horror series on Viu.
