From Bridges To Bunnies, Broga’s ‘Smol’ Quirks Make It A Big Escape Destination

If you’re a Klang Valley resident looking for a quick weekend getaway (or even a weekday escape), look no further than Broga. Broga is located in Semenyih, on the border of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, and it’s not far from Kuala Lumpur. Although the area is well known for its hiking trails, there is a lot more to discover. With its eco-friendly surroundings and delicious food, Broga is a terrific location to hang out or relax.

In case you’re wondering what you can do at Broga, we’ve got some places and things that are fascinating, budget-friendly and time-saving that you could definitely check out.

Broga Hills

Broga Hills is renowned for this (of course we had to start with this!) Broga Hills, often referred to as Bukit Lalang, is regarded as an easy to moderate trek. It is ideal for beginner hikers, because there are ropes fastened to the trees to guide you. The best time to hike at Broga Hills is around 5am. The reward? At the top, you’ll get a breathtaking view! If you aren’t an early riser, you can choose to hike in the evening and enjoy the sunset.

Paradise Valley

Besides being a place for nature lovers, Broga also has a spot for adrenaline junkies. The Paradise Valley resort, which is surrounded by lush hills, provides a respite from the tropical heat of the city. Go all-out with the activities on offer, like kayaking, flying fox, rock climbing, camping, cycling, and more. If you’re just looking to unwind, head outside to take in the landscape, wander through the rainforest on designated routes, and take in the flora and wildlife. Day travel and overnight stay options are available. Whether for large gatherings, family vacations, or an escape, Paradise Valley is the ideal place to be.

Rabbit Fun Land

Rabbit Fun Land

If you’re an animal lover, check out Rabbit Fun Land. Spend time with all the adorable rabbits, from little bunnies to mature ones. As you tour the farm, there’ll be guides who will assist and educate you about the animals. Besides rabbit, you can feed a variety of animals, including horses, goats, deer, and more. You can also explore an organic food garden and learn about organic farming. Rabbit Fun Land was formerly located in Broga, but has since relocated to Mantin. Fear not, though – that’s just a 10 to 15-minute drive from Broga and well worth the effort.

Chinese Food And Café

Although it’s only a small town, there are interesting gastronomic treats to be had. There’s a variety of Chinese restaurants you can choose to dine at, and there are spots that sell traditional Chinese delicacies too. For something light, you can go for fruits or snacks sold at stalls. We came across one Thai dessert shop where they sell mango sticky rice and Thai milk tea. It was so good and the price was also reasonable.

If you’re looking for something other than Chinese, you can check out Orchard Hill café. It’s a cool spot to hang out at, especially after you’ve finished your weekend climb up Broga Hill. At Orchard Hills, you can choose from a variety of cakes, coffees, pastas, croissants, sandwiches, and other Western and local treats. The finest part of this café is that you get to savour your food while taking in the tranquil scenery of the mountains and greenery. Following a satisfying meal, explore the orchard, because there are lots of photogenic locations there.

Sak Dato Temple

Kuha Gala

Chinese temples are often fascinating architectural marvels. And not only is Broga a great location for trekking and dining, but it has a stunning temple that is not to be missed. The lovely Sak Dato temple is situated in this very small, rural town. The temple is visible from a distance as soon as you enter Broga. Even though it’s not very big, the compound itself is enormous, and you can trek up to the summit to see the enormous Sun Wu Kong (Monkey God) statue that occupies the centre of the site. This statue holds the record of being the tallest Su Wu Kong statue in all of Malaysia.

The temple also boasts wonderful design elements that give it a stunning appearance. Another of its attractions is a suspension bridge which links it to the hill’s opposite side, and where the short route leading to the Sun Wu Kong begins.

Happy exploring!
