Internet challenges can be fun and engaging, but some can also be dangerous and possibly even fatal. Recently, reports of French streamer Jean Pormanove passing away while on a livestream sparked heated debate.
According to reports, Jean, whose real name is Raphaël Graven, died on Monday (18th August 2025). He was found dead at a residence in Contes, a village north of Nice, France. However, what was most shocking about his death was that Jean was livestreaming on the streaming platform Kick when he was found dead. The 46-year-old was participating in an endurance challenge to see how long he could stream for.

Adding to the shock of it all, Jean was subjected to physical and emotional abuse during his nearly 12-day challenge by fellow streamers Owen Cenazandotti and Safine Hamadi. Examples of the abuse the two would engage in include dousing him with water and shooting him with paintballs. All the abuse was livestreamed on Kick with viewers actively donating to see the Frenchman get humiliated more.
Given the circumstances of his death, the news of Jean’s passing has sparked outrage amongst netizens. Many called for Owen and Safine to face legal actions, arguing that the two may have contributed to the streamer’s death. It’s also worth noting that the two streamers were questioned by police in January 2025 for a similar issue, but were released without any charges. Regarding Jean’s situation, Owen and Safine argued that all the abuse streamed on Kick were staged.

As of now, an investigation has been launched into Jean’s death, and an autopsy will take place to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, Kick said it would cooperate with authorities and was undertaking a review of its French content. It will also ban the streamers who participated in the broadcast pending the investigation. Several French politicians have also spoken about the subject, calling for regulation on online content to prevent such issues from recurring.
It’s unclear whether Owen and Safien would face any charges involving Jean’s death. In the meantime, we extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Jean Pormanove.
