Ever since the movie “Mat Kilau” came out, it has brought plenty of drama. Both good and bad ones! For instance, there was a big hullabaloo over Kelantan’s PAS Youth watching it, and Nur Sajat’s joking explanation of how she used “Mat Kilau”‘s martial arts.
As it turns out, “Mat Kilau” is still affecting people’s lives. In fact, food blogger Rhys William aka Mat Salleh Cari Makan claims people have been badgering him over it! Apparently, an actor who looks eerily like him in the movie has prompted people to ask if it is him. Well, he recently responded with a resounding no.
Rhys recently posted the announcement on his socials to address the issue. “Ever since “Mat Kilau” was released, many thought I was Captain Syers (in the movie),” he shared. “We look the same, but that isn’t me. It’s exhausting repeating this.”
He added that he has never gotten an offer to act in such a large-scaled film. “I only get a lot of food offers,” he said. “Hopefully no one will call me a COLONISER anymore because I’m actually the VICTIM of being colonised by the food in Malaysia,” he joked.
Needless to say, his fans are loving his little announcement. Some admitted to having been certain it was him. “I thought you lost weight solely to act because his silhouette is like yours,” one commented. Another pointed out their faces weren’t the same. Still, some took the opportunity to crack a joke. “No wonder Syers (the character) ran during the war. He apparently went to eat. Clever Rhys,” one quipped.
Well, Rhys may not be famous for acting, but his food blogging has certainly drawn a crowd! The Brit has garnered over 600,000 followers in total on both Facebook and Instagram. He’s best known for his food reviews which are done in Malay.
