A family in a fishing village in Kuala Gula, Perak got a nasty shock last night when their peaceful sleep was interrupted by gunshots. Needless to say, they were even more horrified to discover that the shots had been aimed at them!

Police claim the house of the village head had been targeted early this morning (4th July). At the time, he and his family had been asleep inside. Thankfully, no one was injured in the shooting.

The incident had reportedly taken place around 2:50am. At the time, the 56-year-old man and his family, his wife and four kids, had been asleep inside the house. However, they had woken abruptly upon hearing gunshots, which the village head initially assumed were firecracker noises.

His wife later claimed that she had spotted a masked man through a window, standing outside their gate with a handheld pistol and firing randomly at their house. She also told the media they had no known beef with anyone. “My husband farms shellfish in Kuala Gula and he was just appointed as the village head. We, as a family, have never had enmity with anyone and have never been involved (with) loan sharks,” she added.

The family then reported the incident to the police who started an investigation into the matter. Police reportedly discovered two bullet holes in the glass door, two more marking their car and one had apparently hit their motorbike. They also discovered five 9mm bullet casings at the site.

Police are currently investigating the shooting under Section 39 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971. They also searching for motives for the shooting and are looking for the shooter who reportedly escaped on a motorbike. They have also urged the public to come forward if they have any information on the incident.
