Looks like Ryan Gosling is about to make a “giant leap for mankind” soon 😉
Having worked together with Gosling on “La La Land”, Deadline reported “Whiplash” director Damien Chazelle is looking to reunite with the Canadian actor for his upcoming Neil Armstrong biopic titled “First Man“.
No deal is in place yet, but “Spotlight” scribe Josh Singer will be penning the film based on James Hansen’s “First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong”.
The story will follow the rise of Armstrong as the first person ever to walk on the surface of the moon. At the time, Armstrong’s iconic line was: “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. Before securing a place in history books, Armstrong spent time working as aerospace engineer, a test pilot, a university professor and a naval aviator.
After returning from the moon, he lived a relatively private life as he wanted to abstain himself from fame. In 2012, he passed away at the age of 82 after vascular surgery.
“First Man” has been in developmemnt for over a decade. The movie was originally set up at Warner Bros, with Clint Eastwood planning to direct and produce. However, it later moved to Universal Pictures, with Nicole Perlman (of “Guardians of the Galaxy” fame) attached to write the script. Marty Bowen of “Temple Hill” will produce alongside Wyck Godfrey.
Gosling will be seen opposite Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Steve Carell in Adam McKay’s financial crisis drama “The Big Short“. In addition, the actor will also star in Shane Black’s “The Nice Guys“, which is expected to be released next summer. He will also begin shooting “Blade Runner 2” with director Denis Villeneuve.
