First Malaysian Tested Positive For Coronavirus; 10 Total Cases

The first Malaysian to be infected by the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has been confirmed.

The announcement was made by Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (pictured below) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport today (Tuesday, 4th February).

The man, aged 41, had just returned from Singapore on a business trip. Reports show that he was away from 16th to 23rd January. The Malaysian had been attending meetings with international delegates (some of whom were from China).

The man from Selangor only sought treatment 6 days after returning to Malaysia (on 29th January). He had been experiencing cough and fever. He was later referred to Hospital Sungai Buloh on 2nd February. His results came in yesterday (Monday, 3rd February) and is currently in a stable condition.

The 41-year-old is just 1 of the 2 new cases in Malaysia. The other new case is a 61-year-old Chinese national. He arrived from Wuhan on 18th January and begin experiencing mild fever on 23rd January. He was placed under surveillance for 14 days.

His fever continued till 2nd February and has since been admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for further treatment. The elderly man is being treated in an isolation ward at the time being.

This brings the total coronavirus cases to 10 – 1 Malaysian and 9 China nationals.
