Have you encountered female Muslims wearing telekung to fast food outlets during Ramadan? Apparently, wearing prayer garments in public places is a common practice among Muslim women and girls, especially during the fasting month.

This female TikToker recently drew attention after she posted a video of her and her friends entering a McDonald’s outlet, while clad in their telekung. The TikTok user, known as @amirahharis7, wrote in the caption, “We’re just completed with our first tarawih and decided to visit McDonald’s in our prayer garments.”

The viral video shows Amirah and her friends – all of whom were clad in telekung – ordering their meals at a McDonald’s outlet using the self-service kiosk. Amirah’s post has since gone viral on TikTok. At the time of writing (27th March), the video has garnered over 297,000 views on the platform. Many also took to the comments section to their responses to the clip.

Most of the commenters said that they’re used to seeing Muslim women donning their prayer garment in public places. “I’m already used to it. I always do this during the fasting month. Do I look like I care?” one TikTok user revealed in the comments. Another added, “It’s a common sight during Ramadan. They don’t really care anymore.”

At the same time, there were also some who left humorous remarks in response to Amirah’s video. TikTok user @leeheri141 wrote, “Please avoid wearing white. My heart is not as tough as what you think. Last year, I got shocked numerous times after I encountered (girls wearing) white ‘telekung’.” “It’s okay when you’re dining in, but please don’t do this while you’re ordering at the drive-thru. The face of the staff taking your order might go pale. Especially if you wear a white-coloured one,” another netizen added.

Another female TikToker also revealed that she once went to the supermarket in her prayer garment. Do you see in often?
