CCTVs are usually set up everywhere to deter and record crime. However, even with CCTVs watching, these customers at FamilyMart were apparently still brave enough to try their luck.

Recently, someone uploaded some CCTV footage, taken from a local FamilyMart outlet in Kluang to a Facebook group. The footage showed three people poking around the store before shoplifting some items. Needless to say, their act left the employees and netizens unimpressed.

The video was uploaded yesterday (23rd May) to Facebook group Aku Budak Kluang. “Assalamualaikum admin, please spread the word, these two people stole snacks and Japanese ice cream at FamilyMart (Haji) Manan,” the caption of the video read. “I give (them) two days to pay back what they stole, or I will make a police report.”

CCTV footage showed a couple idly examining some snacks around 11:30am at the store. The man initially put back the few items he had picked up when an employee passed by, but quickly collected them again once she had left. The duo then crowded around a fridge and using their bodies, hid the way the lady was putting the stolen snacks into her bag. They then continued pretending to shop like nothing had happened.

Another camera caught the same man with a different woman looking at Japanese ice cream. The lady looked up at one point, apparently spotting the camera, but continued shoplifting anyway. Using his body to shield the lady’s actions again, the two snuck ice cream from the freezer into her bag.

The trio were all masked, however, it seems the camera caught their features well enough for the employees to be confident in identifying them. Additionally, according to China Press, a clerk at the FamilyMart store claimed the video was to remind other stores to be mindful of the trio.

While most netizens scorned the group’s acts, a few wondered why the employees hadn’t simply stopped the group in the act. “Your proof would have expired in the stomach already,” one jeered. Another advised the employees to make the report anyway. “Let them get caught,” they said. “If not, they will continue (doing this) at another store.”

Well, we sincerely hope the employees of the store will manage to sort out the issue soon. After all, as netizens have pointed out, the shoplifters could become a problem for the store and others near it.
