When you’re not born in a certain country, it’s hard to apply for a citizenship as you’ll have to go through a possibly long process. Other than being tedious, the application process can be quite time consuming too which is why many are still fighting for an easier way to attain citizenship not only for them but for their children as well.

Speaking of citizenship, a netizen recently asked Dr Amalina if her kids would hold only UK citizenship or dual citizenship (Malaysia + UK) and things got heated up after she gave her answer. But the Malaysian physician took to Instagram to clear the air and explain why she has made her decision.

Dr Amalina Che Bakri is a very well-known Malaysian doctor who resides in the UK and is currently expecting her first child with her British husband. The 35-year-old recently asked her followers to ask her questions and one netizen asked about her future kids’ citizenship to which she answered, “Our kids will be British”. According to several portals, the reception to that answer was not well received.

The physician then took to her Instagram yesterday (Monday, 8th August) to further clarify on her decision to not have her children become a Malaysian citizen. The Malaysian doctor first pointed out to remind everyone that if a Malaysian woman is married to a non-Malaysian and if the children are born outside of Malaysia then they will not automatically be considered as Malaysian citizens.

She further clarified that she would love for her children to have Malaysian citizenship but she and her husband are currently living and working in the UK. “I can’t simply fly back to Malaysia to give birth because of my commitments here. To take leave and fly all the way back is not the right call for us and the baby. This is the best decision for us as a family,” she captioned.

Dr Amalina also fires back at those who spread rumours and slander saying that she’s not living in the UK for nothing. “I’m here to work, to get my PhD and to become the best expert in my field.” The physician ended the post by saying that their children’s citizenship will not matter as long as they’re good people and that she’ll teach them the Malaysian culture and language.
