Recently, fans expressed disappointment following the release of the first teaser for “Duyung: Legenda Aurora”. Many were unhappy with the apparent lack of effort in making the mermaid costume look more realistic, especially when compared to the one worn by Maya Karin in the original 2008 film.
As if that were not disappointing enough, fans are now criticising the studio over the sequel’s official film poster, which was released yesterday (Tuesday, 16th December). Here’s why:

KRU Studios has finally unveiled the official poster for “Duyung: Legenda Aurora”, which stars Anna Jobling as the daughter of Maya Karin’s character. Unlike the 2008 posters, one of which featured the iconic actress in full costume at the actual filming location, the latest poster was digitally produced. While this is not an uncommon practice, the final result fell short of fans’ expectations.
Many criticised the poster for looking amateurish, with some pointing out apparent editing flaws that made Anna Jobling’s head appear disproportionate in the image. Others went as far as accusing the studio of using AI-generated imagery, citing inconsistencies in the lighting and background, as well as the actress’ unusually large-looking hands — especially in light of KRU’s previous backlash over its use of the technology during its comeback last year. Some likened the poster to ones on pirated DVDs sold in stores and markets back in the day.

At the time of writing, neither KRU Studios nor any members of the cast have addressed the latest backlash surrounding the poster. Given how much technology has advanced over the years, it is unfortunate that it appears to have been underutilised in delivering higher-quality content, with some feeling that shortcuts were taken instead.
What are your thoughts on the new poster compared to the ones in 2008?
