We’re sure you’ve had dim sum before. It’s a local delicacy which many enjoy, from the delightful dumplings, siu mai, pau and more. While most love the food, what we truly enjoy is the atmosphere. There’s nothing better than munching on some dumpling and chatting with good company, while enjoying a nice cup of tea.

Unfortunately, this dim sum store in Puchong didn’t share the same sentiments. They apparently have a time limit of 40 minutes for you to enjoy your dim sum. This left netizens in two minds about the time limit, with some supporting it while others remained against it.

A netizen who underwent the dining experience for themselves, took to Facebook to share their thoughts about it. They apparently uploaded it to Facebook group “Puchong People (蒲种人)”. They claimed that they had visited a well-known dim sum restaurant in Selangor around 7am. A bright yellow sign outside the window caught their eye. It read, “Dining time limit of 40 minutes“.

Although they knew about the supposed time limit, they were still caught off-guard by the staff’s urgency. “I had just put down my chopsticks when the staff politely asked if they could (clear the table) before I finished my tea,” they shared. “Boss, eating dim sum isn’t (for a short while).” They added that they had only started eating from 7.15am to 7.45am.

“I don’t dare to say anything about the way the dim sum owner operates, but as a customer, I (admit) I’m not happy,” they wrote. They said that they believe dim sum should be enjoyed and not rushed. However, they later added that they did not mean anything by the post. They merely wanted to express their opinion on the issue.

Although they didn’t mean to start anything, netizens still dove into a discussion about the issue. Some felt that the time limit was unnecessary. They claimed that it made the meal unpleasant. One joked that there was no time to chew, only to swallow. A few alleged that having their plates collected immediately once they were done added stress to eating.

Others felt having a time limit was reasonable as it ensures customers outside don’t have to wait long for a table. Additionally, they felt that quickly collecting the plates was simply good service. Those in the middle agreed that having a time limit was fine, but 40 minutes was too short. They suggested extending the time limit to an hour.

The post has since been removed from the group. However, the owner of the shop apparently listened to their customers. The sign outside the window has supposedly been updated to read: “Dine-in Time, No Limit”.

Well, on the bright side, you can definitely take your time to enjoy your meal now! However, do remember to be considerate and think of other customers who are waiting outside.
