DBKL Seizes Over 300 Beam E-Scooters Around KL For Blocking Pavements

It’s nothing new when reports about confiscated vehicles pop up online, especially in a busy city like Kuala Lumpur. However, they are mostly only seized if they don’t meet the proper requirements set by local authorities.

As time goes by, more facilities, like e-scooters, are added to the city for the convenience of others. However, it becomes a nuisance when these facilities aren’t handled correctly and are left all over town. Just yesterday (12th December 2024, Thursday), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) posted on their Facebook page informing citizens that they have confiscated close to 400 Beam e-scooters that were scattered across the metropolis.

“Kuala Lumpur City Hall, alongside the Enforcement Department, has implemented special actions involving electric scooters parked in public places around Kuala Lumpur on 11th December 2024. As a result of the action, a total of 384 scooters were immediately confiscated under the Roads, Drains, and Buildings Act 1974,” as informed by the post above. The scooters were all seized since they were parked illegally and were obstructing pavements for the public, especially those walking.

Netizens praised the authorities for clearing pathways and making life easier for those travelling on foot. However, many pointed out that tons of privately owned motorbikes were also frequently parked on sidewalks, but the government has never done anything regarding the issue. Others complained about how the scooters were an eyesore, ruining the city’s beautiful scenery.

Beam has yet to address the matter but all confiscated scooters were taken to the Jalan Lombong Seizure Depot at Taman Miharja Cheras for record and documentation actions. We think DBKL did an amazing job at clearing pathways for the sake and safety of citizens who frequently walk around the city, but what do you think about these scooters?
