Individuals who fail to follow the recently-announced quarantine order at home can be jailed up to 2 years, fined, or both. According to lawyer Syazlin Mansor, the person who’s unable to comply with the order clearly violates the Section 24 Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Syazlin told Sinar Harian that the punishment is made for the first offence. For the second time, the offender will be sentenced to five years of imprisonment, fined or both. In case they further breached the law, the person shall be fined up to RM200, according to each day of the offence.

“By law, home-based surveillance for contact with Covid-19 can be obtained under Section 15 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988. It also provides control for any authorised officers to order an individual to be detained at home,” said Syazlin to the local news outlet.

Therefore, it’s best for everyone to comply with all the instructions. This is because failure to do so may result in a person being punished. In this case, this is part of the government’s effort to reduce the deadly virus from spreading.
