Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam Review: The Perfect Hotel For A Nice Weekend Staycation

For those living in Shah Alam, there are times when you just need a weekend escape, without venturing too far. So, where can you go if you’re looking to get away from the city, but not completely cut off from civilisation? Setia Alam may not be your first choice — it certainly wasn’t ours — but that changed entirely when we were invited to stay at a certain hotel in the area.

Located right next to Setia City Mall, Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam is an ideal spot for a quick weekend getaway. We recently had the opportunity to check into the hotel, so here’s a glimpse of our two-day, one-night staycation.

As you enter the main entrance of Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly staff at the reception desk in the lobby. One of the first things we were delighted to discover was the hotel’s 24-hour self-checkout convenience store, a perfect solution if you’re ever craving a midnight snack with nowhere else to go.

We checked into a charming Deluxe Double Guestroom on the 22nd floor, which features two double beds and a sofa in a 30 sqm space. If you’re travelling as a group of three, you’ll be pleased to know the sofa is equally comfortable and spacious enough to sleep on. The first few things we noticed about the room were the wireless internet (a must-have, of course), a desk lamp with a built-in wireless phone charger, and a coffee and tea-making station. The beds were exceptionally cosy — perfect for a quick nap or a full night’s rest after a long drive.

Just like any well-equipped hotel room, the Deluxe Double Guestroom also features a wardrobe near the entrance, along with amenities such as a kettle, ironing board, and an electronic safe for storing your valuables. The bathroom is fitted with a ceiling-mounted shower head, a feature we personally love, as it gives the sensation of showering in the rain. However, if you’re not into those kinds of showers, it’s completely optional as the bathroom does come with an ordinary hand-held shower head which you can place on the wall.

If you’re looking to feel more like a VIP, consider booking the Executive Suite, which features a separate living room, a bedroom with a king-size bed, and a spacious bathroom with dual sinks and a bathtub. Although we didn’t get the chance to stay in the Executive Suite, an exclusive tour of the room was more than enough to give us a sense of the relaxing experience it offers. Now, let’s talk about the food.

We enjoyed both breakfast and high tea at Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam’s 5 Wells Restaurant, and we simply couldn’t get enough. We were spoilt for choice with an impressive spread, including a wide array of beloved local dishes such as nasi lemak, satay ayam and daging, and nasi goreng pucuk ubi. And let’s not forget the snacks and desserts as they were no less indulgent. If we’d had a second stomach, we would have filled that up too! Beyond the delicious multicultural menu, the restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, ensuring we were promptly guided to an available table.

Now that we’ve covered the room and the food, let’s discuss entertainment. We thoroughly enjoyed taking a few refreshing dips in the outdoor swimming pool on the 12th floor, which also happens to be where the 24-hour fitness centre is located. That’s right, you can access the gym at any time with your keycard. The fitness centre is fully equipped with cardiovascular equipment, elliptical machines, exercise bikes, free weights, strength training equipment, treadmills, and weight machines. And don’t worry, there’s a shower and sauna room just outside the gym, perfect for freshening up after your workout.

If swimming or hitting the gym isn’t your thing, don’t worry, as mentioned in our introduction, Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam is located right next to Setia City Mall, accessible via a convenient link bridge on the first floor. At the mall, you can catch a film at GSC Cinemas, enjoy karaoke with friends, or shop to your heart’s content, and best of all, you won’t have far to walk before you’re back in your room to unwind and continue enjoying your staycation.

There’s so much more we could say about Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, but we simply don’t have the luxury of time. We will say that if you’re looking to book a venue for a wedding or even an intimate event, this hotel is a fantastic choice. It features a spacious Grand Ballroom and a fully equipped VIP holding and bridal room, the perfect space for getting ready on your big day. Guests can also help themselves to some coffee as Starbucks coffee machines can be found literally everywhere in the hotel.

So overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway at this very lovely establishment. If you haven’t considered booking a stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, then perhaps now’s your chance to finally experience it yourself. Check out our reels below:
