When it comes to giving gifts to people, one of the more common ones is chocolate. A treat for some and a luxury for others, chocolate has become a default gift for appreciation. However, when one gives it to their partner, it’s usually taken as a sweet gesture.
Most people would love to receive expensive chocolates as a gift. However, this netizen was baffled by his girlfriend’s stance on cheap and expensive chocolate. As such, he took to Dcard, a Taiwanese website, to share his experience.
According to the netizen, he had been in a relationship with his girlfriend for a while. Neither of them were materialistic, but he knew his girl had a sweet tooth. In fact, she had a tendency to save money to buy more lavish treats.
So, when the supermarket held a promotional event for their chocolate stock, he saw an opportunity to make her happy. He bought some expensive chocolates for her, hoping give it to her for Christmas. However, later that week, he got into an argument with her which resulted in the cold shoulder from her.
In an attempt to make up with her, he brought out the expensive chocolates he’d gotten. She wasn’t upset at the gift. But, she made a rather surprising remark. Apparently, she wanted a cheap but known brand of chocolates rather than the more expensive ones.

The boyfriend was, of course, baffled. Yet, as he succinctly said, “Since (my girlfriend) requested it, of course (the request) must be fulfilled.” In addition to getting the brand she likes, he took care to get her a variety of flavours too!
Although he didn’t understand her taste, he was just glad it made her happy. “This method of coaxing my girlfriend wasn’t expected,” he concluded. “But this is what makes me love (my) cutest girlfriend so much!”
Netizens claimed to be pleasantly surprised by the plot twist. “I thought this was a rant post, but I got blindsided by love instead,” one comment read. Others found the couple cute and the girl’s fondness for cheap chocolate adorable. Some also complimented him for being a kind and a thoughtful boyfriend.
