When K-pop star Taemin (태민) announced his first world tour, Ephemeral Gaze, Malaysian SHINee Worlds and TaeMATEs were ecstatic to discover that Kuala Lumpur was one of the stops. In a way, the idol made history by being the first SHINee (샤이니) member to hold a full-length concert in Malaysia – and given that it’s his first overseas stop for the tour, expectations were high.
As Taemin is regarded as one of the best performers in the K-pop industry, fans were anticipating a great show – and sure enough, the star didn’t disappoint. From the start to the end, the soloist presented back-to-back flawless performances with impeccable vocals, brilliant dance movements and a captivating stage presence. Here’s a rundown of how the concert went:
The show started with Taemin making a mesmerising entrance with “Dejavu”, followed by the dynamic “Guilty”. He then got the crowd screaming with excitement with his next track, “Advice”, which showcased his powerful dance moves. Taking a break from performing, Taemin greeted his Malaysian TaeMATEs for the first time that night. The crowd went wild when the 31-year-old formally welcomed everyone to his first solo concert in Malaysia. However, this isn’t his first time here in the country – having performed in 2024 alongside his SHINee members – but he was sure to let his fans know he missed them dearly.
The jokester idol also showed his playful side, fooling around with his fans. However, the singer did a 180 with his next line-up of performances. Taemin again demonstrated to the audience why he’s the best with his hypnotic performance of “Goodbye” (Korean Version). Next on the setlist was the experimental “IDEA:理想” which exhibits Taemin’s flawless dance skills, hitting every move with precision. He then follows up with a dramatic performance of “Heaven”, which had the crowd speechless and eyes locked on his theatric moves.
After making a quick change of outfit, Taemin took a step back from the powerful performances to demonstrate his serious side with his ballad tracks, “I’m Crying”, “Clockwork” and “Not Over You”. These three tracks showed off his vocal prowess, proving that this K-pop superstar is a true all-rounder. He then took another break to talk to the audience and show off some of his mic tricks. The singer also shared an anecdote about his concert setlist, revealing that it has been carefully selected to tell a story. Taemin continued to display his vulnerable side, performing the emotional “The Unknown Sea” and the hopeful “Blue”.
The second half of the concert started with a dance battle featuring Taemin’s backup dancers, which then transitioned to the next track, “G.O.A.T”. The singer kept the momentum going with the hip-hop track, “The Rizzness”. He then performed his latest single, the groovy “Sexy In The Air”. Taemin then pause to take a quick breather and did a vibe check with the crowd, making sure they’re still having a good time. Unfortunately, his hairpiece fell off during his last song but it did allow fans a chance to see him do a quick touch-up on stage. At this point in the concert, many fans started cheering “cute” at the youngest member of SHINee, only for him to jokingly ask, “Do you know how old I am?”.
The concert then moved on to its final stages, with Taemin performing a medley of his best hits to end the show. First up is the ever-iconic “Move”, which even the singer himself admitted was his signature song. Following that were more of his famed tracks – “Want”, “Criminal”, and “Horizon”, which wrapped up the show before the encore stage. The TaeMATEs in the venue then got started on the first fan project, a singalong to Taemin’s “Pansy”. Taemin returned to the stage to perform his debut track, “Danger” and the funky “Crush”.
Addressing the fan project, Taemin did an impromptu rendition of “Pansy”, much to the joy of his fans, before posing to take a photo with the crowd. However, the Malaysian fans had one last surprise for him – the second part of the fan project, a special video dedicated to the idol. The grateful Taemin then posed for another group photo, this time holding the hand banner specially designed by his local fanbase. The concert officially ended with a performance of “Say Less” and Taemin moving to all sides of the stage to bow one last time to the crowd.
