Known for directing small-scale indie films such as “The Town That Dreaded Sundown” and “Me & Earl & the Dying Girl”, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s next directorial outing may be the one that would catapult him to mainstream fame.
According to Variety, Gomez-Rejon’s next project, “Collateral Beauty“, will star Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara.
Set in a New York-based ad agency, the movie tells the story of a man whose life is spiralling downward after facing multiple setbacks in life that sends him down a path of deep depression. Michael Sugar and Bard Dorros are attached to produce it based on the original screenplay written by Allan Loeb.
Jackman is a Hollywood A-lister who is known for his portrayal as Wolverine in the “X-Men” franchise. He also starred in other box-office hits such as “Real Steel” and “Les Misérables“. As for Mara, she debuted in 2005 and starred in films such as “The Winning Season” and “Youth in Revolt”. She had her big break as Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo“.
Gomez-Rejon is a hot commodity in Hollywood as his forthcoming film “Me & Earl & the Dying Girl” recently won the “U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic” and the “Audience Award for U.S. Drama” at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. He is also known for directing several episodes of “Glee” and “American Horror Story”. Last year, he was nominated for an Emmy for “Outstanding Directing For a Miniseries” for “American Horror Story: Coven”.
“Collateral Beauty” is currently in its infant steps of production, as no distributor or financier is attached to the project yet.
