Christy Chung’s (锺丽缇) daughters have many times garnered netizens’ attention with their beauty and model-like physiques. However, one of them recently sparked backlash after sharing an unfortunate bathroom selfie.
Over the weekend, 16-year-old Cayla (张凯琳) shared an image on social media that sparked a heated debate online. The photo largely appears to be a selfie taken in a bathroom, with the teenager posing in front of a mirror. However, the background shows a woman sitting on the toilet. Many believed the woman in question was Cayla’s sister, Jaden, sparking criticism towards Cayla for invading someone’s privacy.

Additionally, some pointed out that the social media personality covered her cleavage in the image to avoid overexposure. This revelation sparked more criticism towards Cayla for prioritising her image over that of others in the same room. However, some netizens defended the teen, arguing that it may have been an honest mistake. The image was quickly taken down, with Christy later releasing an apology.
In her statement dated 23rd March 2026 (Sunday), Christy clarified that the woman in the picture was Cayla’s classmate, not her daughter Jaden. She added that she felt deeply sorry and remorseful for causing distress and unease to the classmate and her family over the invasion of privacy. Christy also noted that she blamed herself for the incident, taking responsibility for her daughter’s mistake.

The actress admitted that her inadequate education is at fault, adding that she failed to communicate with her children due to her busy schedule. However, Christy said that she has since spoken to Cayla about the incident, emphasising the importance of privacy and respect. She added that she and her family will be more careful in the future to avoid a repeat of the incident.
Christy also thanked the public for their concern, adding that she’ll work harder to be a qualified mother to her daughters. Netizens have mostly accepted the apology, but hope that the family will be more cautious with what they share online.
