While death is unavoidable, many of us still fear the idea of it and have a hard time accepting death. However, Chinese folk singer Shen Ye (申烨) was well-prepared for her passing, even sharing her obituary before she left.
Chinese media outlets recently reported the singer’s death on 21st January 2025 (Tuesday). Shen Ye passed away at age 40, reportedly due to health complications. Surprisingly, the star had anticipated her passing and took to social media to share her final message and details for her funeral. The post was scheduled to be published after Shen Ye took her last breath.
The post writes, “Dear friends, it’s been a while. It’s Shen Ye. When you see this message, I’ve already left the world (on the morning of 21st January 2025), but please don’t be sad.” Her message continues, “Leaving is not a permanent farewell; forgetting is. It’s my honour to have met you in this life. I wish everyone peace and success in the future.” The rest of the post included details about her funeral, including the date and venue.
The bittersweet post went viral on social media, with many sending in their condolences to Shen Ye’s loved ones. It’s believed the singer was prepared for her passing as she suffered from health complications for a long time. According to reports, Shen Ye suffers from a condition called Takayasu’s arteritis, where she doesn’t appear to have any pulse or blood pressure. In addition, the public figure also suffered from frequent headaches since she was young.
As a singer, Shen Ye enjoyed success amongst Chinese folk music fans. She has released multiple albums and had a few popular hits. She also regularly appeared on China’s national television broadcaster, CCTV, to perform her songs. The 40-year-old was also known for her beauty and even gained the nickname “Northern Folk’s Angie Chiu” after the Hong Kong actress.
