A few days ago, a netizen shared his receipt from eating at a chicken rice stall at an eatery in Pudu. However, the amount he paid for two plates of chicken rice left many flabbergasted and shocked.
It’s no secret that food prices have soared considerably since the pandemic. While most don’t mind splurging occasionally for good food, the majority thinks that RM80 seems a bit too much for just two plates of chicken rice.

On 15th September, a local netizen took to Facebook to share a meal he had at a famous chicken rice stall in Pudu. According to the photo and the receipt the uploaded, he and a friend had ordered a plate of siew yok (roast pork belly), roasted chicken wings and rice each. Including two cups of iced herbal tea, their total came up to RM77; RM81.60 with the added 6% service tax.
Netizens were shocked by the meal of chicken rice costing RM35. “I can’t afford chicken rice anymore,” one mourned, while another commented: “This is a bit too much.” Others joked about why it was so expensive. “Wow, golden chicken,” someone mocked with another suggesting the pork was a premium pork. “Maybe the chef graduated from Europe,” one quipped.
Some however pointed out that the shop was well known, allegedly of Michelin grade, opining that its delicious food brought customers near and far, despite it being pricey. One even stated: “(You) can’t blame the shop because the prices at stated on the menu. Better check the price before ordering.”

Well, to each their own, we suppose. If you don’t mind paying more for delectable food, then others shouldn’t be judging. On the other hand, we sincerely hope this netizen felt his meal was worth the hefty dent on his wallet!
