Experience Elegant Dinning At Bunglow37: Bakery By Day, Restaurant By Night

There’s no denying that you need to have some uniqueness to stand out in anything, especially when it comes to the competitive F&B industry. Well, Bunglow37 is certainly making sure they aren’t losing out in that regard.

The quaint restaurant is settled in what looks like a housing area, and can be found along Jalan Abdullah, Bangsar. Unlike other eateries found in the ever-vibrant Bangsar, Bunglow37 has its perks. For instance, it offers an elegant dinning experience both with its furnishing and its Modern European cuisine with a hint of Asian influence.

Sounds fancy? Well, we had the pleasure of dining with them and it certainly was an experience!

To begin with, Bunglow37 only starts its operations at 5pm. You may wonder what happens there in the morning then. Well, it’s a bakery by day and a restaurant by night! The bungalow which Bunglow37 resides in is also shared with Der Backmeister; a German artisan bakery.

If you’re looking for authentic German delicacies, this is one place we definitely recommend! There’s different kinds of pastries and breakfast food. But, we suggest going there with an empty stomach because a full German breakfast will definitely fill you right up!

Around 4pm, the bakery makes the switch with Bunglow37. From a cheery, day-bakery, the bungalow evolves into something more suited for dinner dates and elegant events. The evening lighting certainly lends the place some ambience, heavily helped by its vintage-looking interior.

Fun fact? Most of the pieces have been preserved from its past residence, giving the place an authentic dining feel. Additionally, they offer both event spaces and private rooms, allowing their guests to select a space suited to their needs. While they encourage guests to be creative with their own decorations (within limits, of course), they do hope to provide a similar service sometime in the future.

Space and ambience is one thing, but the true draw of any restaurant is the food. As previously mentioned, they serve Modern European with a hint of Asian. According to Chef Mohammad Hafiz, they choose their cuisine with the intention of preserving the history of the place. However, they also wanted to add a touch of Malaysia to it with local ingredients.

The fusion of the two cuisines have led to some interesting combinations. Some which stood out to us were their mutton masala pizza, chicken satay pizza and pan seared grouper. These dishes capitalised on local tastes and succeeded in blending the two cuisines. Their pan seared grouper in particular is one of their best selling dishes. After a mouthful, we could certainly see why. Buoyed by shoyu burnt butter and sautéed local greens, the juicy fish leaves a lasting impression on the tongue.

Bunglow37 also takes care to serve dishes you may not be able to find elsewhere. Such as their octopus leg, which can only be found at Spanish restaurants, and their bacon onion soup. The bacon onion soup does sound like an odd combination, but it is a savory appetizer fit for beginning a meal.

As for closing a meal, we definitely recommend their Choc Creamux, a rich creamy chocolate dessert. It’s sweetness isn’t overpowering and it gives a nice finish to the overall meal. However, if you do have a sweet tooth, check out their Apple Filo Pillow. It comes with a serving of ice cream which has a nice temperature contrast with the baked crispy roll.

Aside from their Ala Carte menu, Bunglow37 has three and four course set menus for their dinner events. Bunglow37’s main priority is ensuring the customers enjoy their food. As such, they refresh their menu every six months to keep things fresh and exciting. The next change will supposedly take place middle of this year, so do drop by before the change!

Check out their Instagram for sneak peeks at their food and space. For more information about Bunglow37, feel free to explore their website and their Facebook.
