For some reason, many believe that finding a significant other should start when you’re younger. Some even joke that past a certain age, most won’t ever be able to find a life partner anymore! However, that isn’t the case for Hong Kong actors Bowie Wu Feng (胡枫) and Helena Law Lan (罗兰).
Both Bowie and Law Lan are well into the double digits, with Bowie turning 90 this year while Law Lan is 88. The two have known each other for a while, and have been good friends through thick and thin. To the pleasant surprise of many, Bowie recently asked Law Lan to be his significant other. And, she said yes!
The Hong Kong singer recently held a concert to commemorate his 90th birthday. It had previously been delayed in September as Bowie had fallen sick with the coronavirus then. It was quite the show with guest singers like Jacky Cheung and Nick Cheung joining him on stage. However, as it turns out, a truly wonderful occasion had taken place backstage.
Law Lan had also been at the concert to support Bowie. The famed actress has been by Bowie’s side, especially after Bowie lost his wife Lui Wing Ho in 2016. After several years, the two had gotten fairly close. Close enough for Bowie to finally pop the question to Law Lan while they were backstage. Well, needless to say, Law Lan accepted the proposal!
The couple has been extremely happy so far and family, friends, and fans have also offered their blessings to the duo. However, Law Lan claims that although their relationship is official, they will not be commemorating it in the usual traditional ways. The actress stated that they are not planning on holding a banquet nor getting a marriage certificate to signify their bond. Law Lan reportedly said that at their age, they don’t want a ceremony. They just want to support each other for the rest of their lives.
Well, they certainly make an adorable couple! We too would like to offer our congratulations to Bowie and Law Lan. May they live happy and healthy lives in the coming years. And, kudos to them for showing that you are never too old to say yes.
Update (21st November):
Unfortunately, it seems both Bowie and Law Lan will not be getting happy ending after all. In fact, the duo claim they never got together! Bowie and Law Lan recently revealed to Hong Kong media “新明日报” that news of their alleged marriage was “a beautiful lie“. It is true that Law Lan attended Bowie’s concert to support him and it is true that they are good colleagues and friends. However, Law Lan insists that is all they are. Thankfully, neither artist is insulted and are merely treating the whole affair with some amusement and bewilderment.
