Tamerlan Tsarnaev. That was the name of the first suspect (now dead) believed to be involved with the Boston Marathon bombings. In pictures released by the FBI, he was the one wearing a dark hat, sunglasses, and a backpack. Tamerlan came from the Russian Caucasus region and moved to Kazakhstan at a young age before going to the United States several years ago.

The second suspect, wearing a white cap in the pictures, is his 19-year-old brother, Dzhokar Tsarnaev.

Dzhokar Tsarnaev

In a state-run Russia Today interview with the Tsarnaev brothers’ mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaev, she said:

It’s impossible for them to do such things. I am really telling you that this is a setup. My son would never keep it in secret. If there is anyone who would know it would be me. He wouldn’t hide it. But there was never word. My youngest was raised from eight years in America. My older was really properly raised in our house. Nobody talked about terrorism.

Their mother still refused to believe that her sons Tamerlan and Dzhokar were involved in the marathon bombings and subsequent shootout.

Meanwhile, minutes after US authorities indicated a massive manhunt for a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings appeared to come up empty Friday, police “engaged” a possible suspect. Watertown was literally standstill as police offers in full body armor, carrying automatic weapons conducted their door-to-door search of the area.

The city’s subway, bus, Amtrak train and Greyhound and regional Bolt Bus services were shut down. Taxi service across the city also was suspended for a time during the manhunt. Every Boston area school was closed. Boston’s public transit authority sent city buses to Watertown to evacuate residents while bomb experts combed the surroundings for possible explosives.

During the police operations sweep, authorities then managed to corner a person believed to be Dzhokar Tsarnaev on a boat in a yard in Watertown. Multiple explosions near the site where authorities have engaged the suspect were heard by the CNN crews. The nail-biting confrontation eventually led to his arrest:

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was shot in the throat and he also reportedly has injuries to his tongue. He now lays seriously wounded in a hospital pending investigations. He’s still unable to speak and therefore unable to facilitate interrogations.

More to come as the story unfolds.
