#BloodRunner2015: Unleashes The Werewolves; Runners Show No Fear

Arrwhhoooo!! BloodRunner 2015 flags off over 2,000 runners into a chilling yet thrilling experience.

On 31st July 2015 (Friday) werewolves came out to play as local experiential agency, Sw1tch Strategies Sdn Bhd hosted Asia’s first ever werewolf-themed urban obstacle night race.

Supported by Malaysia Major Events (MME), a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia (MoTAC), it brought together participants and spectators alike for a spine chilling night of fun.

BloodRunner 2015 officially kicked off at 10pm with 5-minute intervals in between each wave.

Proving to be a 10 kilometre-long challenge around Putrajaya as runners underwent a series of obstacles that ushed them both physically and mentally. The first challenge, the Waterboy challenge, required runners to carry a tin canister of water each. Failure complete any of the obstacles will require runners to do 20 squats before being able to proceed with the race.

Apart from the Waterboy challenge, other obstacles includes:

  • Sobriety Beam – which tested a runner’s balance and overall sense of direction.
  • Mount Agony – an obstacle consisting of a dozen variable height A-Frames that required runners to run over them to fully test one’s agility, strength, and coordination.
  • Black Walls – runners were required to hop across huge lorry tyres tied together in a row, wall climbing, going through a dark trail and climbing over a School Bus.

The evening saw participants, their supporters, and the surrounding community enjoying festivities at the race site. Apart from performances by local favourites Kiss Kill Mary and Jon Liddell, some of Malaysia’s best food trucks were also present to feed the rumbling stomachs of participants and everyone that was part of BloodRunner 2015.

BloodRunner 2015 was also supported by its co-organisers, Mayhem and Exhibit Lab, as well as official partners Perbadanan Putrajaya, RedFM, Evian, Petzl, District Thirteen, Vespa, Runners Unite, Fit Aid, Running Malaysia, and Ultron.

Personally for me, the beauty of the race was the fact that it brought people from all walks of life together. Like true Malaysians, runners – regardless of race – helped each other through the obstacles, cheering on one another as they made their way through the finish line.
