Bare Skin Facial + Laser Bar Review: Our First Laser Hair Removal Experience

Is hair removal worth it? There’s a common misconception that hair removal is often painful and results in a bad allergic reaction. With the advancement of technology these days, more and more folks (even men) are seeing the benefits in hair removal. Instead of having to do regular grooming every few days, a semi-permanent solution can be life changing to many.

Like most (if not all) treatments, there’s always a risk to it. Under the hands of an uncertified therapist/ clinic, you run the risk of suffering some serious side effects (burns or scars). This is where Bare Skin Facial + Laser Bar comes in. Launched in August 2023, this skincare company utilises a combination of state-of-the-art AI technology, paired with industry experts to deliver innovative treatments to meet the demands of Malaysians.

Before embarking on this journey, it’s important to note that every person’s result will be different – depending on one’s skin tone, hormones, age, and lifestyle. Some laser treatments might work better on those with dark hair and light skin, while some might require multiple touch-up sessions before seeing significant results. So how is Bare Skin Facial + Laser Bar different than other companies in the Klang Valley?

We were recently approached to experience one of Bare Skin’s signature treatments. Between Personalised Facial (AI-powered skin analysis + post-treatment care instructions) and Ice Diode Laser Hair Removal, we opted for the latter. Ice Diode Laser Hair Removal is a modern technique that combines diode laser technology with a cooling system designed to provide effective hair reduction while minimising discomfort.

The Ice Diode Laser system uses a diode laser beam that targets the melanin in hair follicles to damage them and reduce hair growth. The “Ice” part refers to an integrated cooling technology that keeps the skin surface cool during the procedure.

How It Works:

  • Laser Technology: Diode lasers emit a concentrated beam of light that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles. The heat generated damages the follicles to inhibit or delay future hair growth.
  • Cooling Mechanism: The device’s built-in cooling system keeps the skin chilled, helping to reduce discomfort, pain, and the risk of burns. We experienced a slight sting, which the therapist assured that it’s to be expected.

Benefits:

  • Comfortable Experience: The cooling technology makes the process more comfortable than traditional laser treatments, often described as painless or minimally painful.
  • Quick Sessions: The treatment is relatively fast, with the cooling system allowing continuous application without long pauses.
  • Reduced Risk of Side Effects: The cooling component helps prevent common laser treatment issues like redness and irritation.

Like most hair laser treatments, it definitely works. However, it’s not a one-time solution to eliminate hair forever. Since hair grows in cycles and not all follicles are active at the same time, we understand that we’ll probably need to undergo several follow-up sessions (sometimes up to 6-8 times) for optimal results. It’s also beneficial to follow pre-treatment guidelines (shave treatment area, avoid direct sunlight and alcoholic beverages prior) as well as post treatment care (avoid hot baths and certain skincare for 48 hours).

Our targeted area was the stomach. The stomach area covers a larger surface compared to other body parts, and the diode laser’s ability to work efficiently over wide areas makes it ideal for such treatments. During the session, which only took about 20-30 minutes, the diode laser emits a light beam that targets and heats the hair follicles. As aforementioned, we only felt a sting at certain areas but the built-in cooling system was particularly useful for reducing discomfort. Since this was only our first session, the body hair grew back within the same week, but it’s thinner and lighter than before.

Bare Skin Facial + Laser Bar opened its first outlet in Bangsar and has since expanded its presence to Taman Tun Dr. Ismail and Subang Jaya. To find out more on its range of treatments, do visit https://www.bareskinfacialbar.com
