Fans continue to mourn Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu (徐熙媛), a.k.a Big S (大S), who recently passed away at the age of 48 due to influenza complications. However, amidst the grieving, fans are also calling out Barbie’s ex-husband, businessman Wang Xiao Fei (汪小菲).
Recently, Wang Xiao Fei sparked a heated discussion on social media with his reaction to Barbie’s death. After news outlets reported the star’s passing, the businessman immediately flew to Taiwan. During an interview with journalists, Wang Xiao Fei appeared haggard and pleaded with the press to say good things about his ex-wife. He was also seen walking alone in the rain, which many took as him being sad about Barbie’s passing.
However, fans of Barbie are now calling him out for putting on a pitiful act to gain public sympathy. A social media post alleged that Wang Xiao Fei hired social media users to post about his past relationship with Barbie. There is also a list of requirements for the postings, including using Barbie’s past comments about their relationship. It’s suggested that the posts will help create a loving image for the businessman to promote his businesses.
Additionally, fans also criticised Wang Xiao Fei’s mother, Zhang Lan (张兰), for spreading false news about Barbie’s death. Previously, there were rumours that the businessman paid for the private plane that brought Barbie’s ashes from Japan to Taiwan. However, Barbie’s sister, Dee Hsu (徐熙娣), refuted the rumours, saying all funeral arrangements were paid by the Hsu family. Netizens later reveal that the rumour came from a Chinese influencer with ties to Zhang Lan.
It’s understood that Barbie’s fans are especially critical of Wang Xiao Fei and Zhang Lan because of their previous treatment of the last star. After their split, Barbie and Wang Xiao Fei entered a lengthy legal battle, where she accused her ex of domestic abuse. On the other hand, Zhang Lan is notorious for disliking her ex-daughter-in-law, even spreading false information to damage Barbie’s reputation.
