Hollywood’s finest turned up at the Royal Opera House in London for the 69th British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTA) on 14th Feb 2016 to celebrate the best British and international contributions to film over the past year.
“The Revenant” emerged as the big winner, scooping up 5 of the major awards including “Best Film”, “Best Director” for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and “Leading Actor” for Leonardo DiCaprio. The drama film also won for the “Best Cinematography and Sound” category. “Mad Max: Fury Road” was another big winner at the EE BAFTA Film Awards with 4 trophies under their belt.
This was a huge night for DiCaprio with his first ever BAFTA win. He was previously nominated on 3 different occasions but failed to win the coveted prize until now. DiCaprio’s close friend and former “Titanic” costar Kate Winslet also won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Steve Jobs”.
Brie Larson, who was absent from the award show (she’s currently shooting “Kong: Skull Island“), was named best actress for her role claustrophobic drama “Room”.
“Brie, looking for a little bit of something light and nice to do after Room, is wrestling a large gorilla in Australia,” said “Room” director Lenny Abrahamson as he collected the award on her behalf.
