Over the years, we’ve reviewed a handful of tech products from the upgraded iPhone SE to the Amazfit Balance 2, but this marks our first time reviewing a laptop from ASUS. The ASUS ExpertBook PM3 is one of the brand’s latest releases, with durability being one of its standout selling points.
Rather than risking damage to a perfectly good laptop, we’re going to take ASUS’s word for it. Instead of diving too deeply into technical specifications, this review will focus primarily on the lifestyle side of things and what this device has to offer everyday users. Here are some of our favourite things about the ASUS ExpertBook PM3:
Durability
Let’s start with its standout selling point. Despite being lightweight and slim, the ASUS ExpertBook PM3 has passed 24 criteria under the US military-grade MIL-STD-810H tests, outperforming many of its competitors. You’ve likely seen countless videos of content creators and tech reviewers putting such claims to the test.
While we didn’t attempt to drop the laptop or stand on it, we carried it around with us for the past two weeks and were pleased with the results, confident in its ability to withstand the everyday knocks and bumps that come with regular use. For those who travel frequently or are constantly on the move, this laptop is certainly worth considering.
Display & Resolution
We never experienced HD visuals quite like this, or perhaps we’re simply so used to our current devices. Either way, we were impressed by the ASUS ExpertBook PM3’s vibrant colours and sharp display. While its resolution sits just above 1080p, content often appeared closer to 4K in clarity and detail.
Whether streaming on YouTube or services such as Netflix and Prime Video, visuals felt crisp and immersive, even when playback was set to 720p or 1080p. We also tested a few games and, while the screen and resolution are not designed with gaming in mind, it still offers a solid experience for casual play during your free time.
Another feature that impressed us was the multiscreen setup — our first time experiencing this on a laptop. By clicking the multiscreen icon, a second screen opens without interrupting the one you were already using. We tested this by streaming YouTube on one screen while working on the other, and it worked seamlessly, so if you’re somewhat of a multitasker, this would come in handy for you, as you wouldn’t need to open too many tabs.
Battery Life
We were particularly impressed by the battery life of the ASUS ExpertBook PM3. It comes equipped with a 70Wh four-cell battery, offering up to 13 hours of use on a single charge, and supports fast charging to 60% in just 49 minutes. Typically, when a laptop drops to around 10% battery, most users would instinctively reach for the charger to avoid an abrupt shutdown. To test this, we continued using the device to see how long it would last before powering off.
Much to our surprise, while streaming a movie, the ExpertBook PM3 ran for nearly an hour at 10% battery before issuing the final low-battery warning. This means that if you’re in a rush — perhaps needing to send an urgent email or submit an assignment — and your charger is nowhere to be found, you still have a reasonable window of time to get essential tasks done before the laptop shuts down. To ensure battery longevity, you can head to settings and enable the Battery Care Mode feature, which will help it last for at least 3 years of use.
Camera
The camera on the ASUS ExpertBook PM3 may not be its standout feature, but it’s reassuring to have a 1080p Full HD (FHD) camera equipped with a physical privacy shutter and an optional infrared (IR) function for secure facial login via Windows Hello. Designed with corporate use in mind, the camera performs reliably for online calls and video conferences.
Performance
Last but certainly not least, performance. Whether you’re using the ASUS ExpertBook PM3 for work or daily personal tasks, you’d still want a great-performing laptop that can provide all your basic needs. This device is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen™ 7 3500U CPU, which takes performance to the next level. Combined with ASUS ExpertCool thermal technology, the processor can consistently sustain 40W+ performance, unlocking its full potential even under demanding AI workloads.
If you don’t know what any of these words mean, don’t worry, we’ll put them into perspective using video games. As mentioned earlier, thanks to the HD display, the laptop already offers a solid gaming experience, but to really test its capabilities, we tried playing “Genshin Impact”, a game known for its high demands on processing power and memory. The result? Smooth gameplay with no noticeable lag, allowing us to defeat enemies with ease without worrying about the game freezing.
Overall Thoughts
Priced at RM5,799 on the official website, is the ASUS ExpertBook PM3 worth the investment? For basic daily use, like checking emails or running Microsoft Office, we personally believe that you’re better off purchasing a more affordable option that won’t break the bank. However, if you are frequently on the move, work remotely, and need a sturdy, high-quality laptop that can boost productivity, the ExpertBook PM3 is certainly worth considering.
