Air Selangor was just recovering from a water supply disruption this weekend, when another announcement was made today (19th October) informing the public about further water disruptions caused due to water pollution.

This new water disruption will affect 1,196,457 Klang Valley households located at 1,292 areas throughout Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

According to Air Selangor, the water treatment plants at Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Rantau Panjang had to be shut down after a contamination rate of 1 TON was detected in the raw water source from Sungai Selangor. This issue was reported to be discovered at 2am this morning (19th October).

Due to the shutdown of these 4 treatment plants, users in affected areas will face unscheduled water disruption. At the time of writing, Air Selangor has still not provided any further information on the estimated time of restoration for the water supply.

To dilute and remove the contaminants from the raw water source, Air Selangor will be releasing water from its Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System (HORAS 600) and also raw water from its dam, which have a capacity of 285 million and 800 million litres per day respectively. Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) is also following the same procedure and releasing raw water from the KL-Larut lake, which has a capacity of 336 million litres per day.

Air Selangor also announced on its Facebook page that the previous incident’s water restoration process, which was at 80% as of 2am this morning, will have to be postponed due to the current situation.

For the time being, Air Selangor will provide water supplies by mobilising its water tank trucks. Priority for this additional supply of water will be given to high critical areas, such as hospitals and dialysis centres. Consumers that need immediate water supplies for emergency purposes can contact Air Selangor at 15300.
