#AmosYee: Police Report Lodged Over YouTuber’s “Lee Kuan Yew Is Dead” Video

One Singaporean YouTuber has landed himself in somewhat of a hot soup situation for uploading a controversial video on YouTube – and that’s lightly putting it.

To be more precise, the 17-year-old Amos Yee, who goes by the YouTube channel name “brainandbutter“, made insensitive comments against the late Singapore founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The boy also made remarks about the Christian faith, comparing Mr Lee to Jesus Christ, by saying both figures “are both power-hungry and malicious but deceive others into thinking they are both compassionate and kind”.

Lee Kuan Yew Is Dead

We quote:

Lee Kuan Yew is dead. Why hasn’t anyone said, “F*ck yeah, the guy is dead”? Lee Kuan Yew was a horrible person because everyone is scared, everyone is afraid that if they say something like that, they might get into trouble which..give Lee Kuan Yew credit, that was primarily the impact of his legacy. But I’m not afraid! So, if Lee Hsien Loong wishes to sue to me, I will oblige to dance with him. Come at me, motherf*cker.

Amos’ 8-minute long “Lee Kuan Yew Is Finally Dead” video uploaded yesterday (27th March) also goes on to say that Mr Lee’s followers were “completely delusional and ignorant, and have absolutely no sound logic or knowledge about him that is grounded in reality”. he then compared that to Christians’ knowledge of the bible and the religion’s priests.

He added that Mr Lee was “a dictator but managed to fool most of the world to think he was democratic… by granting (Singaporeans) the opportunity to vote to make it seem like we have freedom of choice”.

The above video has been viewed more than 245,000 times and counting in 24 hours.

Fun fact: Amos Yee had a minor role in one of Singaporean filmmaker Jack Neo’s films, 2012’s “We Not Naughty“.

According to Yahoo Singapore, a student named Yuen Wei Ping has since filed a police report against Amos’ video. In his statement, he stated that the video’s content could be an offence under Section 298 of the Penal Code. Under this section, anyone found uttering words “with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious or racial feelings of any person” could be sentenced to 3 years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

That or, well, his parents are probably going to ground him until forever once they find out about this.

Amos Yee

Prior to uploading the “Lee Kuan Yew Is Finally Dead” video, Amos actually announced on Twitter that he was “making a Lee Kuan Yew video”, among other things.

The late Lee Kuan Yew passed away on Monday (23rd March) at 91 years old.

A state funeral service will be held on Sunday (29th March) afternoon at the National University of Singapore’s University Cultural Centre.
