AirAsia X (AAX) has announced the resumption of it’s direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Busan, further expanding it’s footprint in South Korea and reinforcing it’s position as the only Malaysian airline offering nonstop connectivity to the coastal city.
The four-ties-weekly service is set to commence on 17th June 2026, marking Busan as AAX’s 21st destination globally and it’s second destination in South Korea, following Seoul. The move is expected to stimulate new travel demand while strengthening the airline’s market leadership in North Asia.
AAX chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail said the return of the route reflects the airline’s disciplined approach to network expansion and it’s commitment to making long-haul travel more accessible.
“We’re thrilled to bring back this beloved route and proud to be the only airline in Malaysia operating direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Busan, a city of many wonders. AirAsia X’s focus has always been on making long-haul travel more accessible and resuming this route reflects our disciplined approach to growing our network whilst enabling more travellers to enjoy new travel experiences and adventures”, he said.

He added that the Busan service builds on the airline’s existing Seoul route, further enhancing it’s presence in one of it’s strongest growth regions.
“Building on our current route to Seoul, Busan further enhances our footprint in South Korea as we continue expanding across North Asia, which remains our strongest growth region. Similarly, we are excited to welcome travellers from Busan to Malaysia, particularly in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026,” Benyamin said.
To celebrate the resumption, AirAsia X is offering promotional all-in-one way fares starting from RM299 for Economy and RM999 for Premium Flatbed, available for booking until 18th January 2026, for travel between 17th June and 30th November 2026.
Flights between Kuala Lumpur and Busan will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with departures from Kuala Lumpur at 2:20AM, arriving in Busan at 9.45AM, while return flights depart Busan at 11AM, landing in Kuala Lumpur at 4.30PM.
Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, is known for it’s scenic coastline, vibrant markets, cultural landmarks, and it’s internationally renowned Busan International Film Festival, marking it a popular destination for both leisure and cultural travelers.
