AirAsia is stopping its 4-time weekly flights between Miri and Penang. The airline said the decision was made after careful consideration, according to The Borneo Post.

In an e-mailed statement, AirAsia said, “AirAsia regrets to inform that after careful consideration, the airline will be withdrawing the four-time weekly flights between Miri and Penang. The route commenced operations in March 2014, and has an average load of below 65 per cent throughout this duration. Efforts have been taken to keep the sustainability of this route. However, due to commercial reasons, AirAsia has to withdraw from this route.”

However, the airline assured all that it would continue to re-evaluate the opportunities to reinstate the flight as the operator of this exclusive route.

“Guests affected by the withdrawal of this route will be offered options to alleviate any inconvenience that might occur and each affected guest will be notified via their registered email account, as well as an SMS notification of the route withdrawal. The flights affected are Miri-Penang, Penang-Miri — AK5527 and AK5528,” AirAsia added.

All affected passengers are advised to keep their e-mail addresses and mobile numbers with their country code prefix updated in their AirAsia member profiles to ensure that the airline could reach and assist them. Alternatively, passengers can also get in touch with AirAsia’s Customer Care here.

The AirAsia Miri – Penang route will cease operations beginning 2nd March.
