Hong Kong artist Adam Cheng Siu-chau (郑少秋) has recently been going viral for a love triangle involving comedian Lydia Shum (沈殿霞) and his current wife Koon Jing-wah (官晶华). However, a different tragedy has struck Adam and his family recently.
A few days ago, Adam Cheng’s oldest daughter, Angelina Cheng On-yee (郑安仪), was discovered to have taken her own life in her home in Southern California, USA. She had reportedly been found by her church members near the end of September.
According to Hong Kong media, the 55-year-old had gone missing on the 26th and 27th of September, leading to her friends growing worried. Prior to her disappearance, several of them had noted she was distressed, unhappy, and allegedly struggling with her own complicated love triangle.
Concerned, they attempted to contact Angelina’s mother and Adam Cheng’s first partner, Lo Wai Yu (卢慧茹). However, as they were unable to reach her, they quickly reported the matter to the police. Officers then forcibly entered Angelina’s residence in California and unfortunately, discovered her lifeless body on the premises.
As Lo Wai Yu remained uncontactable, Angelina’s church members turned to Adam instead, requesting he reach out to them to make arrangements for Angelina’s passing. They reportedly held a memorial mass for the 55-year-old on 30th September at the St Bridget Chinese Catholic Church.
Angelina Cheng was born to Lo Wai Yu and Adam Cheng who met prior to the actor’s debut. Allegedly, the duo had fallen in love after meeting each other at a TVB acting class. Unfortunately, Wai Yu took Angelina with her when they broke up three years later. As a result, Angelina apparently never really knew her dad.
Adam once mentioned that he had no contact with his eldest daughter, which saddened him. “I paid for her to go to college many years ago. But I (lost) contact with her after paying (for her tuition). Now, if I met her on the street, I’m not sure if I would recognise her,” he admitted then. YouTube channel “Smart Travel” later claimed that Angelina’s mom had been the reason for her limited contact with Adam.
After they separated, Wai Yu had raised Angelina by herself, save for Adam funding her college education. But, Angelina eventually understood and forgave circumstances surrounding her parents’ separation. In fact, she allegedly took the initiative to meet with her dad during his performance in Las Vegas a few years ago.
Adam Cheng’s wife has since told Chinese media via text: “We are understanding and processing (the situation)!” However, no further comment has been given from the family. Our heart goes out to Adam Cheng and his family. We cannot understand the loss they may be feeling, but we sincerely hope they will find peace in Angelina Cheng’s passing.
