After months of investigation, Taiwanese actor Darren Wang (王大陸) has pleaded guilty to charges relating to his military evasion case. The actor admitted guilt to forging medical documents to avoid his mandatory military conscription.
On 18th November 2025 (Tuesday), Darren appeared before the judge at the New Taipei District Court for his first hearing in his military evasion case. The 34-year-old is accused of evading mandatory military service by relying on falsified medical documents. The case has also prompted an investigation into several other entertainers, including Chen Bolin (陳柏霖), Hsiu Chieh-kai (修杰楷) and Kunda Hsieh (謝坤達).

At his first hearing, Darren pleaded guilty to charges relating to document forgery, causing a public official to record false information and obstructing the conscription system. The “Our Times” star faces up to one year imprisonment for allegedly paying NT$3.6 million (approximately RM480,000) to co-defendant Chen Chih-ming (陳志明), who is suspected of helping Darren dodge military service through fake medical appointment identification.
Darren also outlined his payment process to Chen Chih-ming after discrepancies over the financial transactions at the last court hearing. Chen Chih-ming previously claimed that he received NT$2.6 million from the actor to help obtain fake medical documents. However, Darren maintained the total was NT$3.6 million, explaining that he paid the amount in five instalments, through wire transfers and in cash.

In court, Darren’s lawyer stated that his client’s motive for committing the crime was unacceptable. However, since the actor confessed to the crime afterwards and showed good performance during his alternative military service, the lawyer requested a lenient sentence that could be commuted to a fine or probation. Darren also apologised and bowed in court to express remorse for his actions, pleading for leniency.
Meanwhile, the celebrity military evasion probe continues, with Chen Bolin, Hsiu Chieh-kai and Kunda recently charged for evading their conscription, alongside nine others. The stars face up to two years and eight months in jail if found guilty.
