Forget keeping calm – Bassnectar and Tom Morello are collaborating!
Lorin Ashton, better known by his stage name Bassnectar has established himself as an electronic musician especially in rock arenas as well as the only DJ at rock festivals.
It has always been Bassnectar’s dream to partner with his idol, guitarist Tom Morello from Rage Against Machine and he can now finally cross it off his bucket list as he has confirmed an upcoming collaboration with Morello on a yet-to-name special project.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Bassnectar geeks out while discussing his collaboration with Morello.
“[Morello]‘s working on this really cool project where he’s working with multiple electronic music producers to create electronic songs that he can recreate live on this super, perverted, unexplainable, b*stardised guitar mutant instrument thing.”
Morello has been hinting and teasing about his electronic project on social media and that more collaborations are in the works including ones with notable DJs like Knife Party, Skrillex and Jahlil Beats. Bassnectar expressed that he hopes to produce something a little different with Morello while they were working together.
He said:
“I proposed to him that we basically pretend that we are a band and that we write a song together.”
He goes on revealing that he wants the track to sound like a “Rage Against Machine” song, not a DJ remix of a “Rage Against Machine” track.
“I pretty flagrantly just said, ‘I want to make a Rage Against the Machine song if that’s cool, and I don’t want someone to hear it and think, “Oh, it’s a DJ remix of Rage Against the Machine.” ‘ I just want it to sound like some fu*king funnel into a hurricane, and we have it, that’s the cool news. We have this fu*king killer song.”
As of now, the duo have completed the instrumental part of the project but are still searching for the right vocalist. The vocalists that have been shortlisted includes Outkast’s Big Boi, Deftones’ Chino Moreno, Cage The Elephant’s Matt Schultz and Pussy Piot.
Till then, here’s a track of “Now” by Bassnectar featuring Rye Rye. Enjoy!
Bassnectar’s new album “Into The Sun” is slated for a release on 30th June.
