TVB may still be a broadcasting giant in Hong Kong, however, in recent years, there’s been a slew of celebs declaring their journey with TVB over. The news always leaves many disappointed and saddened, yet each artist has their own reason for doing so.
Here are four artists who announced their departure from TVB in 2023:
Cecca Xu (許子萱)
After being chosen as the Miss Hong Kong runner-up in 2022, beauty queen Cecca Xu shocked many when she announced her intention to leave TVB in February! At the time, she explained she had asked to terminate the contract she had received after winning Miss Hong Kong. She later confirmed her resignation in September, alleging she was putting away her crown to pursue her education at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Vincent Wong (王浩信)
Vincent Wong jumpstarted his acting career at TVB after debuting as a singer. While at TVB, he met his wife, Yoyo Chen (陈自瑶), got married and had a daughter. However, after 17 years at TVB, Vincent revealed in July that his contract with TVB had ended six months ago. Still, his wife Yoyo, who also works in TVB, allegedly has no intention of following in her husband’s footsteps.
Snow Suen (孙慧雪)
After 18 years of being at TVB, guest host Snow Suen declared her intention to leave TVB on 31st October. Snow shared that she was extremely reluctant to leave TVB as she had a fondness for her coworkers and it was her first job. “But, life is like a train, heading on a different journey. No matter how reluctant you are to part, you have to say goodbye at this stop!” she penned in her post. Snow also added that she hoped to spend more time with her kids, especially her youngest who was born earlier this year.
Mandy Wong (黄智雯)
Actress Mandy Wong revealed on 1st December that it was her last day working at TVB. She thanked TVB for nurturing her and her career, adding that she was grateful to the producers for helping her and encouraging her on her journey. Mandy did not mention her reasons for leaving TVB, but netizens suspect it was due to her never winning the Best Actress Award in her 16 years career despite getting nominated for it seven times.
Bonus:
Peter Pang (彭皓锋)
53-year-old Peter Pang is best known for his villainous roles in TVB’s dramas, impressing many with his performance in their works. However, on 30th October, Peter dropped a bombshell on his fellow actors and fans. Allegedly, he had discovered in July that he had a 5cm tumour located in his rectum. At the time, he admitted to being uncertain about surgery as it would require an anusectomy, “and I will have to wear a poop bag for the rest of my life,” he admitted. But, Peter was adamant about fighting the stage 3 rectal cancer for his family.
