The official theme song for this year’s Merdeka has been unveiled!
“Kita Punya Malaysia” by Malaysian pop-rock trio Bunkface has been selected as the official theme for the 61st Malaysia National Day.
According to Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo at a press conference last week, the song has been personally selected by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir from several other songs that were submitted.
The minister also said that the prime minister is attracted to the song as it has the catchiest tune compared to the rest.
Bunkface also shared the announcement on their social media with a shoutout, “Malaysia! We would like to express our gratitude for the trust given to produce Malaysia’s 61st National Day theme song. Listen to “Kita Punya Malaysia” in this coming Merdeka month. Are you ready to celebrate our independence day this 31st August with us?”
Malaysia’s 61st National Day 2018 celebration will take place at Putrajaya with “Sayangi Malaysiaku” (Love Our Malaysia) as the theme. It will be the 1st national day celebration under Pakatan Harapan ruling.
