It appears to be a critical time for Hong Kong singer Shirley Kwan (關淑怡). Earlier today, news outlets reported that the 59-year-old was rushed to the hospital and is now in the intensive care unit (ICU).
According to Hong Kong news outlets, Shirley has been critically ill and was rushed to the ICU for emergency treatment. Reports also spotted two men at the hospital, believed to be Shirley’s son and her father. The singer’s son reportedly wouldn’t leave his mother’s side and had been at the hospital since Shirley was admitted. Family and friends have also been visiting the singer in recent days.

It’s unknown what illness Shirley is suffering from, but it does appear to be serious. Family and friends visiting the star looked gloomy, and Shirley’s son allegedly cried over his mother’s condition. Some news outlets also claimed that Shirley is currently intubated because many of her friends and family visited the star empty-handed, hinting that she couldn’t eat as usual. However, such claims are still unconfirmed.
Shirley rose to fame in the late 1980s and soon became a popular figure in the Hong Kong pop scene. However, in 2005, she made headlines after revealing that she gave birth to a son out of wedlock. She kept the father’s identity a secret until 2014, when she claimed that Zuri Rinpoche the 8th, a Bhutanese religious teacher, is the father of her son. As for her other relationships, the singer previously dated actor Michael Chow and Hacken Lee.

While she had a successful music career, Shirley has since retired from singing. In April 2020, she shared on Instagram her wish to withdraw from the music industry and has rarely appeared in public. However, there have been many reports of erratic behaviour from the star in recent years. She had twice attempted to take her life, citing depression as the reason, and once charged for assaulting a hotel staff member.
Fans and friends are currently praying for a smooth recovery for Shirley. We also hope that the singer will be able to recover from whatever she’s suffering. What are your thoughts on this?
