Music makes the world go round.
Now, I don’t know about you but I cannot go a day without music and my favourite time to listen to music is during long drives. Personally, I think it’s a smart idea to have a playlist of carefully selected tunes to make the drive a little more enjoyable and now with applications like Spotify, creating your own personalised playlist for a road trip is a lot easier but how, just how do you choose the perfect songs?
Here’s a list of songs that I think everyone needs on their playlist when going on a road trip:
1. Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake — Love Never Felt So Good
Featuring a combination of an early 80s feel while also sounding right at home with the disco-soul inflected in today’s music, ‘Love Never Felt So Good’ is guaranteed to set a perfect cheery mood of everyone that’s going on a road trip or long distance drive.
2. Tracy Chapman — Fast Car
‘Fast Car’ by Tracy Chapman is a song about a couple who wants change, a couple who are working to build a better life together in a new place. I say you should include this on your playlist because it is a song that makes you want to just get into the car and out onto the open roads.
3. Icona Pop — Girlfriend
Going on a road trip with your girl friend? Then what better song that Icona Pop’s ‘Girlfriend’ to match the occasion! The video of track shows the girls driving on the open roads while enjoying each other’s company. Say’s about enough doesn’t it? 😉
4. The Lumineers — Ho Hey
If there are only two of you in the car starting a singalong can be quite intimidating. This song is perfect to help calm your nerves because all it takes is a simple, “Ho,” to break the ice.
5. AC/DC — Highway To Hell
Perfect for long stretches of roads with motorcycles passing by, AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’ pairs the perfect balance of grungy guitar with a catchy melody. The track is a perfect addition to your travels but be sure to watch out for the speedometer — blues rock has the tendency to make the foot on the gas pedal seem heavier than it actually is.
6. Arctic Monkeys — Arabella
Arctic Monkeys makes everyone want to drive with the windows down and sun shining in with this track making it the perfect driving song. ‘Arabella’ is definite must on your playlist.
7. Kurt Vile — Wakin On A Pretty Day
It almost feels like Kurt Vile composes all of his songs on the road because of how perfect his music is road trip to. The lyrics and powerful progression as well as carefree vibe to ‘Wakin on a Pretty Day’ is the perfect song for any road trip, anywhere.
8. Drake featuring Majid Jordan — Hold On, We’re Going Home
‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Drake and Majid Jordan is the perfect wrap up song to your travels — I mean, the title alone says enough.
