Packed with a killer combo of awesome vocal prowess and fierce dance moves, Fifth Harmony proved why they are currently one of the most successful girl groups in today’s pop music.
To echo Entertainment Weekly’s sentiment, while Destiny’s Child had Beyoncé and the Pussycat Dolls had Nicole Scherzinger, Fifth Harmony’s secret weapon may actually lie in the fact that they lack a Queen Bee. The differences in these ladies only highlight their individual strengths.

Last Friday (7th April), thousands of Harmonizers at the Surf Beach Sunway Lagoon got to witness Fifth Harmony stage their first ever concert in Malaysia. The quartet – composed of Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Normani Kordei, and Lauren Jauregui – performed a total of 18 songs for the crowd.
Formed during the 2nd season of Simon Cowell’s reality singing competition, “X-Factor US” in 2012, Fifth Harmony originally consisted of 5 members – including Camila Cabello. However, the 20-year-old star left the group to pursue her solo career last December.
The group kicked off their “7/27 Tour Live in Malaysia” show with their empowerment anthem, “That’s My Girl”, as fans began screaming at the top of their lungs. Their opening number was followed by back-to-back hits (“Miss Movin’ On” and “Sledgehammer”) from their earlier records.
Clad in an all-red ensemble, the pop stars even took some time in between songs to greet and connect with the mostly tween-teen population present that night.
“Wow, we can’t believe that we are in Malaysia now. We’re super excited to perform tonight. Thank you to those who have flown in from all over the world to see us tonight,” said Ally. At one point, Dinah even impressed fans when she said in Bahasa Malaysia, “Saya cinta kamu!” (I love you!).
Throughout the show, all 4 members were able to move through their repertoire of songs seamlessly. It’s safe to say that no one towered over the other. They were uniquely different from each other but when combined, their sound was at times bluesy, at other times electro-pop.
The more enjoyable moments were during the fast-paced numbers when the performers were able to dance in perfect formation, fist-pump, and fiercely whip their hair back and forth. Catchy tunes like “This Is How We Roll”, “BO$$”, and “All In My Head (Flex)” had the fans up and jumping.

Having said that, the slower songs were less engaging. Although ballads like “Write on Me” and “No Way” allowed the ladies to showcase their vocal range, their voices were sometimes drowned out by the band’s high key. It didn’t help that the enthusiastic crowd had the stamina to go on screaming – and we don’t blame them.
After “Worth It”, we knew that the exciting night was coming to an end as the music for “Work From Home” started to play. The smash single was Fifth Harmony’s 1st top 10 single on the US Billboard Hot 100.

All in all, Fifth Harmony’s “7/27 Tour” was incredibly fun and entertaining. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long before we see these talented singers again 😉
