What do you do first thing in the morning? Do you brush your teeth or drink a glass of water? Neither – because your first reaction to waking up is checking your phone for any messages and then the time. Let’s face it, phones are sacred to us; we can rush out the door and forget everything else except for our phone. And that’s not really something to be ashamed of, as the world revolves around these things.
However, we do eventually get bored with our device and search for something new to do. That’s where apps come in – a new function that keeps us entertained and our eyes glued to the screen. But some apps have a weird side to them, and they range from weird and creepy to downright kinky. Here are five weird apps you can have on your phone:
Cuddle
We’ve all heard of Bumble and Tinder, but what about a matchmaking app for friends? Well, there’s an app for that too, called “Cuddle”. Much like the aforementioned dating apps, Cuddle is where you can meet up with strangers, but instead of hooking up, you make new friends. This app has all the things you need to get started and begin looking for someone, but if your heart can’t take being just friends, you are welcome to level up your relationship. The app is also LGBTQIA+ friendly, so you can confide in someone who may be open and accepting of that closeted you.
Vibrator App: Vibrator Strong
If you’re not into friends and actually prefer being alone, this might be for you. Yeah… there’s no sugar-coating this, but we won’t judge. As the name suggests, it turns the simple and boring vibration function of your phone into something a little more exciting. If it brings you any peace of mind, it’s under the “Health & Fitness” tag in the Play Store, so feel free to classify it under self-care if you so wish. We ain’t judging, but it’s there if you need it ;).
Heads Off
What do you get when you play as a decapitated Mario on his way to save the princess, but instead of reaching a castle, your journey never ends? It’s hard to imagine, right? Well, unfortunately, you don’t have to imagine, thanks to Heads Off, the weirdest and perhaps most disturbing of the apps on this list.
In Heads Off, you play as a disembodied head in this endless runner game similar to Jetpack Joyride, but how can you control a character with no limbs to speak off? You scream. By tapping and holding your display, you are able to propel the head forward or backward by the sheer strength of their scream. You can also unlock new attire or heads by growing them on trees. If you like macabre analogues of life and death, this might be for you. May we also recommend a therapist?
Monster Hunter Now

2016 was the year of Pokémon GO, a revolutionary app that made all trainer’s dreams of exploring and catching anime animals come true. Now, in 2023, as Pokémon GO is slowly fading into obscurity again, another will take its place. After the smash success of Monster Hunter World and Rise, Capcom decided to go back and focus on another handheld exclusive for phones, called Monster Hunter Now.
The app features the franchise’s iconic monsters that you can slay while on the move. This AR game is Developed by Niantic, the same people who made Pokémon GO, and it has been confirmed that you will need to explore the real world to hunt the creatures you’re after. But how they will execute this is anyone’s guess. Monster Hunter Now is slated for a full release in September 2023, with registration for their closed beta recently ending.
Pokémon Sleep

Despite Pokémon’s far-reaching appeal, from games to cards and even clothes, it’s almost easier to find something that isn’t associated with the brand. Unfortunately, the list just got a little smaller as Nintendo announced another app called Pokémon Sleep. This sleep app, like any other, tracks how well you’ve rested and for how long, but with a coat of Pokémon paint.
The app also keeps track of the sounds you make while you’re asleep, how frequently you toss and turn that night, etc. It is simply a weird app, as Pokémon really doesn’t have any business with sleeping, but if your favourite pocketable creature is what motivates you to rest well tonight, who are we to stop you?
