Japan offers a wide variety of accommodation experiences suitable for those looking for experiences that reflect Japanese culture and rich history. Japan National Tourism Organization Kuala Lumpur Office (JNTO KL) is delighted to share interesting information about unique accommodation experiences that Malaysians will love.

1) Cat spa and ryokan (traditional inn) in Osaka

While cat cafes are already popular, Neko Yokujo is a unique cat-themed inn in Osaka that lets guests stay in rooms adorned with feline decor and interact with resident cats. Set in a traditional Japanese building, the inn offers cozy accommodations, cat-themed amenities, and opportunities for cat-loving travelers to relax and bond with furry companions. It was opened by pioneering animal welfare company, Neko Republic and its decor is inspired by traditional Japanese bathhouses. Osaka is readily accessible for Malaysians from Kansai International Airport.

2) Tradition meets luxury in Gifu Prefecture

Gifu Prefecture, nestled in the heart of Japan’s Chubu region, is a land of diverse landscapes, cultural treasures, and outdoor adventures. This prefecture is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shirakawa-go which is a short trip from Hida Takayama which is making an effort to appeal to Muslim travellers who are interested in visiting this region.

Wanosato Hida Takayama is a quaint luxury retreat nestled in Takayama’s countryside, featuring 8 rooms, a picturesque river, traditional architecture, and locally-sourced cuisine, including renowned Hida beef. A traditional Irori fireplace in the lobby lends to the nostalgic atmosphere.

3) Bicycling-themed hotel in Hiroshima Prefecture

Discover Hiroshima’s resilient spirit and vibrant culture as you explore its historic sites, lush landscapes, and thriving culinary scene, offering travelers a unique and enriching experience in Japan. In this area lies Onomichi City, the starting point of Shimanami Kaido, a bridge system and toll road across the six islands in the Seto Inland Sea, linking them to the main island of Honshu where it is possible to cross by bicycle, car or even on foot. At Hotel Cycle Hiroshima Onomichi there are amenities and facilities for local and international tourists who flock to the area to explore the road on two wheels. It’s the perfect hotel for cycling enthusiasts!

4) Boarding school themed accommodation in Tottori Prefecture

Yazu Town, nestled in Tottori Prefecture’s natural splendor, hosts Oenosato resort, situated amid mountains and a clear stream. Formerly an elementary school, now transformed into OOE Valley Stay Hotel, it offers a unique experience to enjoy the region’s rich nature and distinctive food culture, serving as an ideal base for exploring Tottori’s attractions. Farmstay experiences like bamboo shoot harvesting and other hands-on activities for the whole family are available here.
