Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve definitely come across a Labubu doll. These monster dolls have taken the world by storm recently; even BLACKPINK members Lisa and Rosé are obsessed with it. Unfortunately, the demand for Labubu has spiked the prices of these POPMART characters.
Recently, China Press reported on a collector, believed to be from Singapore, looking to sell their Labubu collection. The collector took to a Facebook group to advertise their collection, which includes more than 20 pieces from all the available Labubu series. All of the items listed are in mint condition in the original boxes. However, the seller is asking for a whopping SGD11,800 (approximately RM38.8k), which is almost the price of a new Perodua Myvi.

It’s worth noting that Labubu dolls have a high resale value due to their popularity. While the average retail price for one box is around RM60, some stores have reportedly sold the dolls for more than three times the price. Since the dolls are only available in randomised boxes, some collectors would even drop hundreds of ringgit to ensure they get their preferred model. There’s also the element of rarity, meaning that discontinued series are worth a higher price.
There could be many different reasons why this particular collector is selling their dolls for the price of a new car. Nevertheless, netizens have since reacted to the news, mostly expressing disbelief at the collector’s asking price. Many mocked those considering purchasing the collection, quipping that they would waste their money. Others said they couldn’t understand the hype behind the dolls, jokingly saying they’re too broke to appreciate it.

Some netizens have pointed out that Labubu prices are only at a high because they’re currently trending, and their value might drop once the next big thing hits the market. Unfortunately, we have no updates on whether the collector has any potential buyers. Regardless, what are your thoughts on this?
