The multinational girl group KATSEYE has seen wave after wave of enthusiastic fans awaiting their new music releases – and it seems that with every release, each track always remains at the top of the charts. With their trending single “Gnarly” hitting the Billboard 100 charts, could this release be another chart-topping hit?
Earlier today (19th June 2025), KATSEYE dropped the second teaser for their 4th digital single “Gabriela”, which will be included in their “Beautiful Chaos” EP. It was also revealed that the song was co-written by singer-songwriter Charli xcx. The teaser drops a significant hint on the visual direction of their next music video, which features a 90s Latin telenovela concept.

In the backdrop of a sultry pop and Latin-toned acoustic genre, KATSEYE embodies all femme fatales in their newest teaser, where the concept derives from a 90s soap opera. Known for her roles in chick flicks and action movies, which make her the perfect icon to be featured in their next MV, actress Jessica Alba makes a surprise cameo on the “Gabriela” teaser.
Fans are piqued by the new concept, with comments flooding in support and love for the group, as well as excitement for Alba’s appearance. Twitter user @/shashikumarkr25 comments, “Jessica Alba bringing major energy to ‘Gabriela’! This teaser just raised the hype”. Another comment of interest from netizens points out the new telenovela concept could be a form of cultural appropriation, with Twitter user @/positionsmafiaa commenting, “It’s not too late to unrelease this cultural appropriating mess. Please do so out of respect to your Latino fans”.
However, fans defend the group by mentioning that the user might have mistaken cultural appropriation for cultural appreciation. Twitter user @/misterboku13 comments, “They’re literally a global group with the purpose of promoting their cultures through music”. It’s also worth mentioning that member Daniela is ethnically Venezuelan-Cuban-Italian.

As KATSEYE continues to promote different cultures in their music could this be a touch on the fine line between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation? The “Gabriela” music video drops tomorrow (20th June 2025) on YouTube!
