One of the worst road accidents in Malaysia occurred on Monday (9th June), when a bus carrying 42 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) collided with another vehicle on the East–West Highway and veered off the road. The crash resulted in the deaths of 15 students and one bus attendant.

Reports continue to emerge regarding the fatal accident, with survivors and witnesses sharing their accounts. According to statements from survivors, there was a burning smell prior to the crash, and the bus driver was allegedly speeding. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences following the tragedy and has directed the Ministry of Higher Education to coordinate appropriate support for the families affected.

UPSI clarified that the bus was not operated by the university, while the bus company denied claims that the replacement driver was not a qualified bus driver.
